Naperville Sunrise Rotary Reprises NaperDink- A Dinky Triathlon for Everyone
Despite thunderstorms which postponed it in July, The Rotary Club of Naperville Sunrise has rescheduled the second annual NaperDink Triathlon, an event “so dinky anyone can do it.” NaperDink will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2010 at Centennial Beach. “Here's a fun, family friendly fundraising athletic event designed for everyone, especially non-world-class-athletes,” says organizer Mary Lou Wehrli. “This is not a timed race, it’s about fun, fresh air, friends, families, food, health and relaxation all while helping worthy causes.”
Participants will bike 2-miles to Pioneer Park on the DuPage River Trail, hike less than 1/2-mile around Pioneer Park, and bike back to Centennial Beach. At the beach, participants may enjoy either Adult Float (bring your floatation device) or, for young people and families, Open Swim (only U.S. Coast Guard approved floatation devices).
Each triathlete will receive admission to Centennial Beach, safety green t-shirt, participation ribbon, and refreshments. There are two divisions: Adult and Open Age. A breakfast of pancakes, bacon/sausage, orange juice, fruit salad and coffee will be served.
Adult Division, age 18-years and up, starts at 8am to bike 2-miles to Pioneer Park on the DuPage River Trail, hike half-a-mile around the park, bike back and enjoy the water portion: Adult Float. Centennial Beach opens for Adult Float at 9am. Open Age Division, all ages, participants start at 10am to bike and hike the same route, but return to Open Swim. Centennial Beach opens for all ages at 11am. “We’re excited to bring back this popular, health-conscious event that will also financially support our seniors and students,” said Rotary Sunrise President Trevor Morgan. Proceeds benefit “Meals on Wheels,” scholarships, and Polio.
NaperDink Triathlon is presented by Fair Oaks Ford with contributing sponsors: Belgio’s Catering, Daily Herald, Gerry & Stephanie Cassioppi Family, Will & Nicki Scott Family, Reality Fitness, Seabreeze West Remodeling, Casey’s Foods, and Advanced Health of Naperville. The Triathlon is partially funded by a grant from the City of Naperville.
Pre-registration is $30 per adult, $20 for 17-6, and $75 per family. Ages 5 and under free. Pre-registration ends Thursday, August 26. Registration the day of the event will be $75/$35/$25.
